I spoke to a mate on the weekend who is involved in an upcoming large battery in SA. I asked if they had considered Redflow and his (very short) response was that "flow batteries don't add up due to the commercials". They are going with lithium.

I also spoke to someone recently who is involved in the Sun Cable project. They will have huge batteries at either end of the cable in NT and in Singapore. He was pretty shtum but said they were also using lithium. The ability of flow batteries to operate in high temperatures got a shrug but not much more info. I suspect the same reason applies.

The long short is that Redflow needs to get their costs down. I wouldn't expect to see them involved in any big batteries until that happens.
