Willbass - I certainly don't excuse anyone for that sort of behaviour. In fact violence towards women has no excuse. And is certainly not limited to beer-swilling Aussies. yes alcohol abuse is a big cultural problem in Aus - I'm not sure that religion is going to solve it though.
And no, I'm not Catholic (or religious)- but i understand how religious leaders can hold immense power over people - which can be a breeding ground for despicable acts of all kinds.
