I think it is old fashioned. Our son was married this year at age 30. They have already been together for 8 years (took their time to get on with it) Since they both earn way more than their parents they paid for their wedding. We supplied the farm and did all the work preparing for the day. Turned out pretty well but I can't help thinking how much is wasted on stuff nobody ever remembers. One hint when you're getting a quote for anything. Never mention the word "wedding" the price goes through the roof.
