Kids actually feel better about themselves if they contribute, self esteem is very important. My kids all left home at 18 as they went to Brisbane to University and with a good education they've all bought homes/apartments. The youngest bought her own unit at 22yrs as she has always worked part time and saved.
Nothing wrong with helping your kids, but its also important that they learn to stand on their own two feet. Its a parents responsibility to help but also teach the lessons of life, which includes respecting others, be dedicated in your work and be ambitious within their capabilities.
Being a parent is far more than just being a friend.
If the kids are working and use your cars for their enjoyment then they should help pay for the privilege, you don't want to encourage the welfare mentality.
Same goes for living expenses, what I do is change for the apartment they stayed in Brisbane once earning ( ie compulsory saving) and then gave it back to add to their home deposit.
