Yes ... I myself worked for the 'old' PMG & TELECOM prior to it's final name change, to it's current one of TELSTRA. Over 13 yrs and my last 4 were in the "Lines Planning" area. I left because of the non competitive culture of senior management who (at the time) mostly came up through the ranks, to their 'chiefs" position as a decision maker !! - I can remember discussing TELECOM'S $350,000 annual profit (one year -circa 1975) and happen to mention many ways in which, "we" could easily SELL more services (through indentifable excess 'spare' copper/equipment/rentals) and involving common sense efficiencies ..... They jumped down my throat with .... "The public would'nt like to see us make MORE profits", was the mentality, at the time.
I'm afraid, Telstra still retains such public service type 'mentality' within their 'decision makers' and will get smashed when made to compete with the 'real' world of communications ..... UNLESS, they decide to really compete??? - Yes ..... And I'd like to have a say in how it could achieve that!! - Get rid of the cronyism and rampant "G & C" that has festered for years, for starters!! - Yes ... I'd like to see that!!
