    Hi,
The system in the US is in crisis because of the partisan nature of its 2 party system
This provide the opportunity for ''capture'' of government by a minority [esp with first past the post].
So , let us say 30 % of the population [60% of a hypothetical party A, which has 50% of the overall vote] , produces a narrow win.
Even if that 30% does not represent the views of the majority, because it rules party A , they are it.
Lower house proportional representation makes that risk less.
Often I am criticised for this view because essentially you would be voting for parties, but there is a fallacy in that criticism.
Because , if there is the capacity for lots of parties, rather than 2 or 3 monoliths, there is greater scope for choice, and for the formation of new groupings as society changes. And lets face it, we vote for parties anyway.
Except that most of the time if it isn't for the big 2 , we don't get who we want anyway.
Imagine the US with a House of Reps with a dozen parties , sometimes agreeing with other parties on some things , and at other times going with another grouping.
All without having to worry about bringing the executive down.
