I agree that paying tax is good because it means that you are making money. BUT there is no reason to pay more tax than you have to. So if you have a chance to make the tax system work in your favour, as in the case of the 50% discount, then I think take it.
Tax is good but don't make it a charity and pay it needlessly and thoughtlessly.
