We are deeply in bed with the US and if we support the US in any action China will allienate us for sure. The US is investing heavily in Australian defence right now so we will owe them like it or not. There is a massive upgrade going on at the Katherine air base to take B52 super tankers and much more. Personally I don't mind this as Australia is grossly under defended and I would rather have the US (with all their faults) on my side than China or Russia. Not to confident about NZ. I think they are very vulnerable and have a limited defence capability. I was recently watching some expert talking about the war in Ukrain and made a point that it cheaper by magnitude to have a greater defence capability that to rebuild a country. Wise words!
