Yes, the thread was entertaining. "Shelley Garland" has since been outed as Marius Roodt, "a researcher at the Centre for Development and Enterprise". (Actually ex-researcher - "Roodt resigned from the CDE on Wednesday afternoon").

However, isn't Fake News a tad harsh? Weren't they just conned for awhile & then owned up; sloppy editing or reporting?
