I don't really think it will be two years (however ACL took around that time). I think there will be a new direction announced this year.

in terms of funding at the last 4C they had $3.3M in cash and had only spent $200k for the quarter that wasn't related to the previous trial.

hopefully most of the financial commitments for the trial have been met now, which means they have several years worth of runway if really needed.

again however my opinion is that they will have selected a new direction this year.

in terms of paying for it, this can often be done by issuing the new party shares in the company, or by a capital raise related specifically to the new entity (again like ACL is currently doing).
