How about just common decency and respect? When people have that instilled in them - asking is this subservience or not is missing the underlying culture. Singaporeans are decent and respectful - (too each other - maybe not to a rude white person).
Aussies (I am one) are more or less selfish and self centered and show little decency or respect - as a culture - we give shit, we single out difference and after a few beers we can get up to all sorts of malarky.
We dont like being told what to do and so having controls put upon some of us, mostly ridiculous and making life harder for those affected, its to be expected that some aussies will go off.
If they actually had decent leaders in charge like in NZ - that actually CARE about their citizens - we would follow them, but to some, our leaders are a hard pill to swallow.
