Both the senators you named were on Party tickets and SHY was the first on her SA ticket as was Pauline in QLD but her "running mate" was of course below Pauline.
So how about you compare apples with apples eagle?
At least Pauline's running mate got 99.9% of a quota after Pref' Distribution and got elected, whereas SHY's 'running mate' was eliminated very early from the Pref' Distribution Counts because SHY had nowhere near a quota herself and had to rely heavily on Pref's to get her quota so obviously SHY had no surplus to distribute to her poor "excluded" 'running mate'.
