I'm new to silica sands but I've read the VRX BFS docs and have a few questions...
From the Arrowsmith Central BFS, sand is valued on silica grade, particle strength, impurities grade, grain size distribution and grain shape.
Arrowsmith Central produces what they call CF400 which on a chemical basis rates as clear glass-grade sand. However specs from the BFS indicate that glass requires a grain size of 0.1 - 0.4mm. The CF400 product has 44% of its mass at a grain size greater than 0.4mm.
Similarly the Muchea F80 and F80C products rate chemically as LCD / optical quality but the particle size distributions are outside the 0.1 - 0.4mm specification.
Does anyone know how much the grain size distribution impacts on the sand value?
Does anyone know which foundry product is of higher value, C20 or C50?
There is no measure given of the sphericity of the foundry grade sands. How much impact does sphericity have on sand value?
