That approval will certainly get the ball rolling, here’s hoping.
Boeing most certainly needs a whole new A/C, most likely a carbon composite. But they say that will take then to 2035 at a 50 bill cost. So they still need the max but they need to lift their act to sell them and I am sure they will. In the meantime you are right more flying hours demanded on existing A/C so important to cut down those running costs where SMN sensors sits nicely.
Also the regulators issue these inspection demands on present operating model A/C that have a history of metal crack defects. If you purchase a brand new A/C of the same model don’t they too come under that same regulatory inspection even though they been new are clean of any cracking issue? If so would not the airlines demand the new ones have sensors fitted before purchase. Just thinking aloud here, this could more than double the number of A/C with installs.
