Inflation has accelerated since the introduction of the fiat money system with the demise of the gold backed system in 1971. Trump has flagged in the past to return to a gold back system. His nomination to the vacant Fed Research board is Judy Shelton, who has also mentioned a return to a gold standard. Her appointment nomination is currently before the US Senate and is meeting resistance, including from 2 GOP senators. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
