You can also have a look at what the Americans call 'junk' silver coins on ebay. For example 1966 round 50c coins are 80% silver. Each coin works out to contain 1/3 oz of silver. So you can pitch your bid to be the AU$ spot price of silver (see kitco), divided by 3, and add a vague amount for fabrication value. They seem to be going for about $6 circulated lately (i.e. about $18/oz of silver content) before added postage. The postage element means that buying only larger numbers of coins is worth it IMO. Too pricey for me - haven't had a successful bid for a while.
Also pre - 1946 Australian silver coins were 'sterling' quality (92.5% silver)
Look for silver bullion under 'Gold and Silver Merchants' in your Yellow Pages. They will courier, or hold until you can pick up. Sometimes will store in a vault at a bank.
