will be interesting to see how this works out - as watso bought a bit of rtc silverside roast for about $7. ok - the starting point is that a few weeks ago, watso paid about the same price for a cooked 700gm lump of roast beef - and frankly, that was top value.
anyway, watso bought the rtc silverside roast, and then left in the freezer for a few months, but now was the time to cook it - so watso had a look on the net for recipes.
for silverside recipes, watso noticed things like malt vinegar, bayleaves, brown sugar - and a bit of this and a bit of that - so watso just used what he had readily available..
white sugar instead of brown sugar
apple cider vinegar instead of malt vinegar
soaked the silverside in some rtc marinade sauce overnight
a few onions (10kg for $3), 1kg spuds, a few capsicums, pierced the meat and inserted garlic cloves.
so long as the meat is tender (seems to be, as watso just checked it out), and can be nicely sliced, then extra flavour can be added by a rtc sauce.
watso's recipe compares with the following - and pretty typical..
- Ingredients
- Nutrition
Roasted vegetables
- 1.5kg piece beef silverside roast
- 2 garlic cloves, quartered
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary, quartered
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 bunches small spring onions, trimmed, halved
- 1/4 cup red wine
- 400g can diced tomatoes
Select all ingredients
- 8 chat potatoes, halved
- 6 baby beetroot, peeled, halved
- olive oil cooking spray
mmmm - watso will let the meat settle overnight and try it tomorrow for lunch
