Both of your propositions are acceptable, but there are multiple reasons why Tesla took off.
: Elon had millions of followers before he even thought about vehicles.
:The name Tesla, which is synonymous with Nikola and electricity.
: Enourmous benefits from positive environmental potential, and tax incentives for zero emission technology.
:There is already decades of data and research on electric cars, and regulation is somewhat allready set regarding vehicle safety protocols for use on public roads. As a startup, you can purchase most components via 3rd party, eg. airbags, fluids, connectors, paint, tyres, bearings, etc, etc.
Please dont forget that there has been a number of electric vehicle startups that got nowhere.
Imagine what would happen to Meso overnight if Elon tweeted about them?
