Agree @jwoody1000 . Inflammation is "natures way" of signalling something is damaged/foreign etc and needs to be repaired/eliminated etc.

However not all inflammation is created equal. The simple lens I view inflammation through is:

    * Acute inflammation is good (alerts the body to do something like repair muscle after a strenuous workout etc). Interesting fact, if you are into bodybuilding try not to take cold baths or anti-inflammatories immediately after a workout as these may blunt the muscle hypertrophy response. Also acute inflammation as a result of sepsis, ARDS etc is a good thing also as it primes the body to fight the virus etc. However this can be a double edged sword if the virus can not be defeated and hyperinflammation (cytokine storm) results and starts to attack the bodies own organs such as in COVID-ARDS. (Rem-L helps here to reduce the excessive inflammation that if left unchecked may get out of control quickly and result in a dangerous cytokine storm often resulting in chronic morbidity or even mortality).

    * Chronic inflammation on the other hand is usually considered to be bad (is responsible for much of the underlying disease progression/chronic symptomatology, e.g. athlerosclerosis, CHF, Irritable Bowel Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis etc). Rex-L helps here to reduce pain from inflamed joints etc. and there is growing evidence that addressing chronic inflammation may help halt disease progression, for instance in CHF etc and also help control chronic symtomatology and flare ups, for instance in Crohns' etc.

A good analogy is that acute stress is good (increases focus and helps move you towards achieving a deadline etc); while chronic stress is bad (sustained cortisol has negative health effects on sleep, mood, weight gain etc).

So brief periods of inflammation and stress are often helpful; while chronic periods of inflammation and stress have more negative effects.

Of course, as with most things, our detailed understanding (of inflammation's role in health and disease) will evolve with more research on different diseases and therapies as they become available. Exciting times to be a holder, YES (albeit also frustrating at the present moment).
