i'm not quite yet ready to be thankful... but i'm getting there. i agree with your summation and that going it alone could well have ended in disaster given the way the sector is moving and australia's high cost of doing business.
all that said though, i'm not sure whether we are in this situation due to luck or good governance. i'm attributing the ongoing poor sp performance to the consensus being that it was the former...
