i am going to make a guess here that the customers of the sun cable in Asia are going to want electricity from the cable for 24 hours per day.
Therefore if the generation of that electricity is coming from solar panels, a significant amount of storage will be required.
Flow batteries could be a big part of this project as they have a number of advantages for stationary storage compared to Lithium chemisties. The Chinese are recognising this with their large Vanadium Flow battery facilities.
