    Yes Sabbah I agree with your view on the 'age pension' , I also started out with the view that I would not need to, or want to claim it, also strongly believing that it's an individuals duty to provide for one's retirement.
    Now I'm not so sure due to the government's tinkering and threats to tax super balances.
    Also very, very upset at the huge salaries and pensions that Pollie's have awarded themselve's, pensions that would require pension pots of several millions. And let's not deceive ouselve's Australian politicians are very third rate.
    So I guess my conscience will be clear if I do have to claim the age pension.
    But referring back to the original thread as to the sum required to fund retirement the biggest factor surely is if one has children to leave assets to ,or not. If not then the capital can be run right down , and as several have remarked that as one gets older not as much is needed to live on, because as we slow down so will our spending.
