are you saying that there is an economic cycle there that is pretty obvious only in hindsight or that the whole cycle concept is in the minds of the true believers (both could be a possibility?)

must admit I rather like Armstrong as a story (little guy sticks it to Wall Street and gets thrown in jail)
but there do see an awful lot of punters out there who give him credibility and his writing on the nature of investment banking and this credit deflationary scenario seems to make sense
