postal companies want the lockers because & in australia posts case over 40% of parcels that are attempted to be home delivered are returned back to the local post office & this costs them a bomb in sub-contractors fees as well as double handling, staff costs & over crowding of post offices & this is just the tip of the ice-berg with on-line retailing

consumers want increased flexibility with regards to delivery & pick up - I know i wont be home at 12pm when they try to deliver my nikes and the post office will be closed by the time I finish work - so when ordering if I can select the petrol station down the road, you send me a text and I can pick them up that night then great

you most always pay for freight some how, you wont pay any more its just a re-direction of $$ per delivery to TZL

lockers come in different sizes

at the moment its bit of a race to secure the optimium locations - and they aren't australian post offices either
