The legislation has been in place since July 2006. All the Government is doing is abolishing the sanctioning that those who were single mothers prior to July 2006 were enjoying. They could stay home and watch soapies until their youngest child turned 16 years old. It's just making the same rule for all.
Plus, they're not expecting mothers to find full time jobs and 'abandon' their 8 yrs old to the streets. This is the Gov, they have very low standards....lol
You only have to part time participate, 30hrs per FORTNIGHT.
"Participation requirements
If you are looking for work, Centrelink supports you in many ways, for example by paying income support, offering self service facilities and referral services.
As part of this support you are expected to look for work, accept suitable work offers and do extra activities to improve your chances of finding work.
To meet your part-time participation requirements you may need to:
enter into an Employment Pathway Plan
look for a part-time job of at least 30 hours a fortnight
participate in employment services (such as Job Services Australia)
undertake a period of work experience activity with your Employment Services Provider."
Hardly the end of the world. And yes, people are right, keep popping one out every 8 yrs to avoid working.
