Pretty sure its given back in tax. However this is a real conundrum for the nation....we happily give handouts to women who choose not to work and have multiple children to different partners...however the middle class workers...those more likely to produce offspring which end up in professions we need in the future....get their welfare cut hence why many choose not to have children or one or two rather than three or four. However both partners need to work to have any chance of paying off their inflated mortgage..but with no subsidised child support its almost cost neutral to work. A good example of the people who potentially drop out of the workforce are nurses...all the while there is a 'critical shortage'...so I guess its not that simple. 457 visas are here to stay.
