Ocean Patriot is a semi submersible rig meaning its going to be anchored (or self positioning)over a spot on the ocean bed. The survey will show the best positioning for the rig so that the drill does not strike for example an escarpment and all the ocean bed well head equipment can be easily placed and serviced. Even remote control vehicles need an even, generally flat surface to traverse.
