I'm going back later this year with a far greater holiday focus. I intend to spend the majority of the time out in the countryside, Inle Lake, Bagan Southern peninsular on the beaches etc. North of the country is more challenging (and sometimes not possible) as a tourist but it is amazing. Foothills of the Himalayas type country.
Plenty of airports and cheap overnight bus services if you are on a tight budget.Very simple infrastructure wise. The larger cities are easy to take in quickly, dont need to spend excessive amounts of time there. Traffic in biggest cities is slow as and pollution pretty bad, much better out in the country side and on the beaches
If u r really adventuresome, you can now exit via west border and visit Nth East India, were tourists are rare.
