Gov't are not elected to protect Corporations or Bank's from harm but the population. You know, the ones who pay the taxes, the ones who foot the bill at the end of it all with their tax dollars. Business' will only survive if there is a consumer base for them to serve once this is all over and without that consumer base, even if they do survive the initial downturn they are FUBAR'D.

If the general population are not looked after then there is no rebound at the end of the tunnel. And let's face the facts, there is very little manufacturing in Aus any more, it has basically become a service economy based upon tourism and a raw materials industry that pay's royalties of cent's on the dollar which then buys the same product's back at vastly inflated rates.

Maybe it's time again to become at least half self sufficient for the benefit of all in our country instead of just benefiting a few instead ?

I'm not proposing Socialism at all, just a more self sufficient Aus that look's after itself first rather than a selling out of the wealth we all own for cent's on the dollar and not putting anything away for future generations.

Marakai, excellent post but they aren't going to like people before corporations. You mean democracy, we only talk of that in dark corners away from view.

CSIRO today said 18 months minimum on vax. We could perhaps keep it at a lower level for a time but it will require an army to be monitoring, testing and tech survellance. If they could hunt down and isolate a mild strain then that may be an option as well. They have cured people with plasma from recovered patients also so change could surprise on the upside.
