jopo and stevo raise the critical issue of temperature tampering by "trusted" authorities. We only have to read today's Weekend Australian p. 9 "Bureau altering climate figures" and p. 20 "Heat is on over weather bureau revising records" (Graham Lloyd - Environment editor). In short:

Our own Bureau of Meteorology is now under the spotlight for having adjusted raw temperature data (homogenisation) throughout Queensland over the last century, contrary to the principles upon which homogenisation is based.

There are instances where an actual cooling trend as measured by highly reliable weather stations over the last century has been tampered with to make it appear as if those stations had recorded a 2 degree warming! (Maybe they should be called the Bureau of Morphology.)

Cooking of the data has been so bad that it has led to a paper being published in the international journal Atmospheric Research, exposing these practices by the Bureau.

The author of the paper, Dr. Jennifer Marohasy, is angered by what she calls the "corruption" of data and "propaganda techniques" used by the Bureau.

Critically, and tellingly, the Bureau's attempts to rebut the paper have been rejected by the journal. In other words, they've been caught with their pants down.

I agree with those who say we need to stick to the science. What better way to weed out the frauds being perpetrated by various players in the climate industry.
