Being an organic chemist you'd know heaps about how solvent extraction works. With that in mind, you should reread the lifton article and decide for yourself whether it makes any sense. Perhaps you should do a little digging into rare earths separation, and then reread the article.

Pretty soon i think you'd come to the conclusion that you know more about solvent extraction and rare earths than mr lifton and that every time he writes something down he embarrasses himself. Like for instance his mass balance around the SX plant.

The man is a clown.

There's a good book called The Extractive Metallurgy of Rare Earths, highly recommended.
