ok use my car example or indeed any other luxury goods, since when did they test the water first by leaking goods to market, and how could they even do so reliably. the only proof that counts is number sold, and you are sure to sell more with advertising. you gotta admit there is some fuzzy logic in all of this.
find a comparative example where a newly developed product is simply placed on the shelves with no fanfare simply to gauge consumer interest? wont the interest be less on account of no advertising/launch promo etc.?
do xbox/playstation or going back a few years Nintendo soft launch their new games to gauge interest? its just a ridiculous proposition.
