Agreed. However not many manufacturers have the look through into 3rd party inventory to see "stockpiled by resellers" i.e Woolies sell that info back to suppliers but would never stockpile. If they were still buying then the manufacturer normally assumes that they are selling.
For the same reason above, when sales stopped, they would have had no idea bout how much stock was already in the channel. Now if they were not getting paid until stock sold, i.e. pay on scan, then they should have known, but if they were paid when shipped, no way.
