Kevin Rudd, Mark Arbib, and many more MP's from both our major political parties have to heed the words of Malcom Fraser, published in The Age today. Titled 'Slavish devotion to the US a foreign policy folly for Australia ', his opening words were 'To participate in a conflict with China is totally contrary to our interests.' We do not have any leaders at present that are willing to lead Australia with a clear and independent foreign policy. We have two faced Rudd, when as PM, continue to send more troops to Afganistan while having serious doubts about the whole affair and his willingness to commit Australia to support the US in a total war with China is breath taking in its folly. To quote Fraser again, 'Australian prime minister Robert Menzies told the US that if it went to war with China over Taiwan, Australia would not be part of it. Menzies had a longer-term understanding of the necessity of Australia's future than has been shown by any current leaders.' Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard must make a similar statement to remind the US that we have our long term and independent strategic and economic interest to consider in this part of the world.
