    re 'Kibbutz' - seems they're having trouble keeping them going - the second generation - those who were communally raised in the Kibbutz - often want 'out'. Those arrangements work very well, as long as they are voluntary, I think and you can't expect your kids to do the same or feel the same you did, when young, which applies everywhere.

    I guess there'll always be starry-eyed volunteers travelling to Israel just to experience a Kibbutz - I have met a few, my son-in-law worked on a Kibbutz and quite liked it, but his reason was; 'a cheap way of staying in Israel and experiencing the country', he travelled a bit.
