Gogo1 Abbott must allow the government to have the right to take action on border control that will help secure our borders and prevent the tragedy of deaths on the high seas. This is beyond politics. It is in the National interest that the Coalition and Government pass laws that will resolve the impasse of the High Court decision that now does not permit offshore processing. No government Liberal or Labor currently has the power to permit offshore processing.
The proposed legislation will provide that power that would allow both the Governments Malaysia and the Oppositions Nauru solutions. The government wants the legislation passed and the only way it can do so is a bi-partisan approach by the Coalition with the Government. If they play political stonewalling with this and some major tragedy occurs the Coalition members with a conscience will not be able to sleep nights. They need to act and act quickly.
Unlike you I believe Tony Abbott will do the right thing and will negotiate an outcome with the government, To not do so would create a situation of much soul searching were another major tragedy to occur.
