    CONSERVATIVES yesterday called for an official inquiry into the delays in building Wembley, as the company in charge of the project denied that the stadium is sinking.

    The Tories wrote to Tessa Jowell, the Culture Secretary, saying that speculation about delays and cost overruns were damaging confidence in Britain.

    A spokesman for Multiplex, the firm building the £757 million stadium, said there was "no truth" in rumours that it is sinking.
