Yes,CMC uses the Market Maker where they get your order and than put it thru' the real market.From my experience the spreads and time delay cost much more than their selling point of being the lowest commissions.Sometimes the wait can be up to a minute and if the market is moving fast you get requoted with a big difference.Many a times it just freezes and your broad band is lost.Another problem where you get burnt is if the market gaps down on the open you will get the lowest price if you had placed a stop.
I had some bad experiences with CMC and am trialing IG market at the moment which is the real market with low commissions.
Another provider i am looking at is Man financial.Even though the commissions are higher you can trade the markets before it opens 15 mins and after the markets closes 15 mins.This way you tend to jump the que and i beleive that it makes much more sense than the commissions charged.Another good point i have come to know about Man Financial is that you actually get paid interest for your free equity.
Have tried CMC for a year and it's time to move on.Good luck with your choice.
