I often am a contrarian, but I guess some of the reasons I hang around is goldbug psychology. It's very unusual, an affinity for a useless metal that is almost certainly on the decline, the days of 'stacking' it and ships carting the stuff around the globe are well and truly over, something goldbugs can't quite get their head around.
You don't need to have a buy sentiment to post here, a sell sentiment is quite reasonable and I find it quite odd that many put me on ignore. Why would anyone ignore a contrarian view...it may well be right?
Gold has no utility, the countries that load up on it are mostly failed states and unpleasant dictatorships, and anyone can buy and sell it with the push of a button, at a fraction of cost of going to a bullion dealer. Not like the good ol' days.
Goldbugs have fanciful imaginations, they believe the charlatans that sell the stuff and predict colossal gains in the unknown future, read HC any day of the week to see posts lauding the 'experts' who've been wrong for years. And then there's the BRICS.....how could anyone possibly believe this collection of losers is worth throwing a dollar at?
But anyway, it's an interesting pastime, it's certainly saved me a lot of money over the years while I check out other bets.
