OIO has just approved Bathurst Coal buying 31 hectares of farm land at Coalgate for a new coal mine extension. Fonterra's Darfield (Cream Cheese for Asia) and Clandeboye (Milk powder , butter and cheese) plants will benefit but Synlait will miss out on the cheap and plentiful resource
Instead Synlait will have to rely on the renewable, but extremely fragile and finite water resource to generate its electricity.
