I really wish I had some idea. That is a good question!
However on a different tack (that I have thought about) - a stock like Woodside will attract a higher proportion (compared to a similar stalwart like BHP say) of weaker holders who are holding due to opinions on the direction oil prices etc, and direction of WPL. I don't know what this proportion will be, but I do think these weak holders will have the cash to buy WPL at a bargain price, even if using some margin borrowing etc on existing holdings. (where many "mum and dad" investors may not have the cash). However I beleive that they will hold in fair weather but not foul. If the SP starts going down and they are holding, they will not ask why (not in a FA way, but possibly TA), but will just sell and even go short if they can.
I am short - good luck to all.
