Should someone be counted out because he is family?
Firstly though, the feeling I get from this thread is that a "Family Business" is something run from a shed in the back yard. If you think that will you please tell David Smorgon, Anthony Pratt and James Packer, I am sure that they would be interested, and while you are there have a careful look at the BRW rich list.
If he is the best person for the job, why not give it to him, the children of high performers have grown up in a home listening to business at the dinner table.
A year ago I gave my son the job of sales manager of my company, this year we are 32% up on last. The best growth we have had in a long time and most of it directly attributable to his efforts in managing the sales team. Was that a mistake?
