Companies should and will always be valued based upon the NPAT and so with an increase in its tax rate naturally mining companies will suffer decrease in market capitalization. HOWEVER BHP and RIO are victims of their own success, not soon after we have had the GFC they are able to come out of all this pretty well capitalized and positined for great growth, any business that can comand price increases of the magnitude they have should surely have seen this coming. If investors still dont see the miners as a worthy investment based on NPAT and comparisons to its peers then go ahead and invest elsewhere.
I just wish the RUDD government introduced a SUPER tax on BANK profits when our banks seemed to fare better than other global banks. I would have loved to see our local fund managers desert our banks and invest more in the banks of the USA and lost the bulk of their investment or in EUROPE where they would have a far greater risk attached based on whats unfolding over there.
