Hang on … your capital loss on AJM almost “paid off” your PLS 50% deduction … hmm, I don’t think capital loss offset works quite like that. Don’t you have the deduct your losses or carry forward losses BEFORE applying any applicable 50% discount - that’s my personal opinion anyway,

But assuming my understanding of how it works is correct then wouldn’t that mean that if your capital loss from AJM did almost pay off your gain from PLS … well that means you made nil (or almost nil) profit from selling PLS and AJM. Now that doesn’t sound like much of a successful trade does it …
