In the past mines in Png were dogged by environmental issues and landowners disputes eg Bougainville Copper and OK Tedi.At Simberi these isuues are not of concern due to its small local population and the mine being situated on a small island. Ald has a good rapport with the tribesmen and mine tailings are deposited deep out to sea.We all know the political problems in PNG generally but at a local level (Namatanai electorate) it is politically sound having been looked after by Sir Julius Chan and now his son Byron since independence. They have business acumen from their Chinese heritage and they wield local influence because Julius' mother ( Koris) was a matriarch of the area.The New Ireland District is a matriarchal society.
I am a long term holder and am waiting for production in Oct 2007.Gold market is on the uptrend.
