As a grain grower I check the prices of the commodities I produce daily. If I am happy with the price on offer that day I may sign a contract for "X" tonnes. Prices are set with buyers competing for the produce and publishing their price. Produce marketing options vary and this is general, however there are obviously other methods to market your grain some of which are quite complex. The bottom line is we accept a price offered to us by a third party and no, we do not compete with other farmers down the street.
