You are right that when grade falls and cost increase the price falls. Most shareholders use fundamental analysis and the majority win therefore the price drops.
The level of specualtion on hotcopper would lead investors to believe the majority of shareholders are specultors which isn't true. The speculators on hotcopper just make the biggest losses and pay the highest prices when buying stock.
Anyway which state are you from lighhouse?
