However, turning to wind: I'm sure you are not suggesting that old windfarms with smaller turbines are totally useless. We put in solar panels on our house some 10 or more years ago and they are now highly inefficient compared to more modern panels. But they are still producing power and lowering electricity bills. We would only remove them if we wanted to replace them with new more efficient panels. That would not seem to be necessary with wind turbines, as new turbines could be installed in an adjacent paddock.

We are now in a different house and recently put on new solar panels, but only covered one roof area with the idea of adding more panels in a few years when they will be even more efficient and with inbuilt converters which also have cost advantages per KWh. A bet each way, as it were. And a battery may be cost efficient by then as well.
