If you are convinced that SMN will gain FAA approval & the share price will rise above the option exercise price of 78 cents, it is cheaper to buy on market now than pay 52 cents on the SPP & 78 cents for the options. If you take up the full allocation ($30,000) & exercise the options, your total cost will be $63,749.82 or 62.89 cents per share.
I am convinced & bought 100,961 @ 49 cents ($49,530.26 including brokerage) on Tuesday (which would have been my full allocation plus options) & saved potentially $14,219.56.
I still have the option of taking up the SPP.
