Here's something of interest. I mentioned the pickle fork will be next up with Chem mill cracking after the APB.
So the affected major models for the pickle fork are all 737NG. The issue is, unless reliably detected, cracks in the station (STA) 663.75 frame fitting outer chord and/or in the fail-safe strap may lead to the inability of a principle structural element to sustain limit load and could adversely affect the structural integrity of the airplane.
- A low cycle crack finding was reported in July 2021
- Airplane had 17020 total flight cycles at the time of finding
Root Cause
- The cracking is primarily the result of poor fastener hole quality.
Interim Mitigation Action
-Frame fitting: MOM-MOM-20-0443-01B(R1) for interanl Detailed (DET) inspections
- Mandated in AD 2021-09-06
-Fail-safe strap: MOM-MOM-21-0369-01B for external detailed (DET) and ultrasonic (UT) inspections
So the threshold for all 737NG, except 737-900ER is 22600 flight cycles and repeat interval checks every 1500 flight cycles
The 737-900ER threshold is 14000 cycles and repeat interval checks every 3000 flight cycles .
